An innovative information technology solution from Jungheinrich has been presented with an award at LogiMAT 2015.
The Hamburg-based enterprise was honoured for its Logistics Interface, reaping a Best Product award in the category of “Software, Communication, IT.”
“This award is proof of Jungheinrich’s outstanding IT competence in the field of intralogistics,” said Richard Brandstetter, managing director of Jungheinrich Logistiksysteme GmbH, adding that it “set a benchmark” for operations in the field.
The Logistics Interface consists of middleware which is installed on the customer’s truck terminal or network server, from where it communicates with the truck and/or sensors mounted on the truck. The Logistics Interface is standard software which interfaces with virtually any warehouse management system. Currently the Logistics Interface is being used with six different Jungheinrich solutions.
State-of-the-art industrial trucks are increasingly fitted with sensors and intelligence. By communicating with these trucks and connecting them to the highly variable IT structures found in the field, the Logistics Interface can improve the efficiency of material flow processes while enhancing safety and ergonomics. Jungheinrich uses its standard Logistics Interface to hook up different machines, in keeping with the trend toward advanced manufacturing (aka “Industry 4.0”). According to Brandstetter, “the Logistics Interface hooks forklifts up to the IT landscape which then controls them. Practical reports from our clients reveal that our Logistics Interface makes a substantial, direct contribution to cost reduction and productivity gains in their intralogistics operations.”
The prize-winners were selected by an independent jury, which used a firm set of criteria to adjudicate the competition entries during the run-up to LogiMAT. The jury members consisted of representatives from business, research and the media.
